I cannot assume that my impressions of the cabin would be different from any others, but to be officially initiated, I must write what I feel – therefore I write.
My name is Julie Lundell and as of Feb 18, 1995 I have been engaged to Joshua Aikens. With this engagement have come many blessings. I step into a new stage of my life with great excitement, and coming to the cabin is part of that new stage.

When Josh, Barbara and I arrived, the sky was dark and the air was cold Josh started a fire and Barbara made hot chocolate. I felt myself warning, not only my physical self, but my emotional self. I listened to Josh and Barbara wax nostalgic with cabin memories and my muscles relaxed as tradition seeped into my blood.
Before we went to bed we made a trip to the “toot-i-wa”. I commented that it was the cleanest outhouse I had ever been in. The others informed me that the nice scent was only there because the long winter snows had left the toot-i-wa vacant.
For a couple of days Barbar, Josh and I had the cabin to ourselves on Sunday, when the others were to arrive, it was raining hard and the roads were slick and difficult to drive. Still, Josh hung a welcoming American flag for the others. Happily, they came.
Aunt Nellie, Uncle Roland, Jennie, Jodi and Jana brought laughter, song and work to the cabin, and it was re-confirmed to me that the cabin is a place of family. I was welcomed into the circle.
So that is the story of how I came here. To list all that draws me in would be impossible, but I live to look up into the starry sky at night and feel as if the stars were so close and so many that I could run my fingers through them like sand. I love to stand under the branches of a tall Ponderosa pine and become dizzy from the ominous branches. I love to wash my hair in the cold water in the morning. I love to work with the family to cook delicious meals or make the house look nice. I love to have Josh push me in the swing and have my feet touch the trees. I love to listen to the music of Roland’s voice and guitar. I love the peace that enters my heart while I’m here, and the courage it gives me to face real life again. Most of all I live it when Josh takes me in his arms and kisses me and tells me that we will forever be a part of the cabin tradition.
