Josh and Julie came from BYU down to Kayenta and did a ton of chores and then came to the cabin on Friday.
Uncle Rol, Auntie Nell + Uncle Jim came up Saturday A.M.
We all rested extensively until Saturday night when Auntie Barb came up.
We went to the Ponderosa B.B.Q. at the new resort/pool tennis courts. It was great just like old times only more posh. That evening it rained like blazes. Julie & Josh had made a fire to roast marshmallows , however they were rained out and tried again next night, all was well. A new activity invented by Julie was instituted into the cabin tradition. Bird watching – everyone became very excited about this new game. Uncle Jim and Julie went for a long long hike but no exciting new birds were spotted. Josh and Julie went for a swim at the new pool, all others read their book or napped.
Then, because grandma’s ghost caused us all to be ashamed because nobody did no work, so we took up the carpet in the teen cabin and braved the threat of Hanta virus by sweeping up a quarter ton of mouse poop.
We then laid a new carpet from the Gallery, threw away a lot of old junk and made the place more clean and homey.
Josh, Julie and Jim took a whole load of trash to the dumpsters then everyone collapsed. Dinner was bowtie salad, fruit salad, and red potato and tomato salad and marinated chicken breasts. It was really good.
Jim, Josh & Jules went for a hike to find night birds. Sunday morning the birdwatchers went out before breakfast. When Jim and Julie came back after discovering a pile of trilobites. Uncle Robert, Auntie Trisha, Matt & Sarah AND a new friend of Sarah’s – Aaron (remember this name). Lunch was turkey on bagel sands, Ham, chicken and turkey sandwiches, tomatoes, green salad, really nasty soda pop and for dessert, Ding Dongs or Twinkies.
Julie and Josh left at about 1:00 to drive to Provo. Uncle Rob brought a new game too called Mexican Dominos. Sarah & Aaron went somewhere. Auntie Trish had a nap, Auntie Nell read her book. Uncle Rol washed the dishes. Uncle Jim wrote in the record. Everyone else played and yelled and cheered. We all had a real good time. [what happened this year] Julie and Josh got married. Ashley graduated from Cambridge University with a M.fill. Jennie will be at Utah State this fall. Dan & Sarah will be at SUU. Jodi is yearbook editor at Dixie High. Jana is incipient volleyball player. She made the team. Matt turned 16. Uncle Jim & Aunt B. finally got their act together and moved to Kayenta. Uncle Jim starts work tomorrow at his new job, 1st grade Bloomington Hills. Uncle Rob and Auntie Trish have sold their house and are moving to Cedar antytime soon. Uncle Bill and Aunt Verona will be joining us in Zion by next summer. Aunt Joanie died, Grandpa died. Uncle Ed died. Uncle Jim has one foot in the grave. “The old order changeth, giving place to the new” or as grandpa put it in his succinct way “The old die, the young take their places”.
But by and large it has been a wonderful year for us all and we thank our Heavenly Father for our many blessings.
