It has been our family tradition for years to spend this holiday at the cabin. Since the whole family gathered the weekend before (June 29-30) in San Diego to witness the wedding of Anna Yssel to Sam Steadman we thought that would serve as our family get-together for this year. For a couple of days Barbar, Josh and I had the cabin to ourselves on Sunday, when the others were to arrive, it was raining hard and the roads were slick and difficult to drive. Still, Josh hung a welcoming American flag for the others. Happily, they came.

Aunt Nellie, Uncle Roland, Jennie, Jodi and Jana brought laughter, song and work to the cabin, and it was re-confirmed to me that the cabin is a place of family. I was welcomed into the circle.

To list all that draws me in would be impossible, but I live to look up into the starry sky at night and feel as if the stars were so close and so many that I could run my fingers through them like sand.
